Star K9 Services was founded by Erskin D. Weir a 20-year retired veteran of the US Army National Guard.  He has over 30 years of experience in dog training which began in Barbados where he was born.  As a young boy, Erskin’s passion for training dogs was noticed by his family and friends as he interacted with their dogs.  Upon migrating to the United States with his family he was provided the opportunity to pursue his passion for training dogs by receiving advice and training techniques from members of K9 units that were serving in the US military.  
Erskin began official canine training in 2005 in Peru, Indiana with law enforcement K9 officers at Vonliche Kennels Training Academy.  He also received training from Hill Country Training Academy and refresher with Global Training Academy.  After he received training as a K9 handler Erskin went downrange to work for the Department of Defense and the Department of State as an Explosion Detection Dog Handler at the US Embassy in Baghdad Iraq.   He also trained in Afghanistan, Qatar and Indonesia on the island of West Papua.  
Erskin realized that there was a need to help veterans with service dogs.  Most noteworthy he assisted a family in Copperas Cove Texas that needed an allergen detection dog.  This type of dog is very expensive and can cost from $20,000-$30,000.  Erskin trained their dog for a fraction of the cost and was more than happy to do so.  That dog continues to serve with that family as a service dog for a student in Copperas Cove ISD.  Erskin has a strong belief in God.  He notes that dog spelled backwards is God.  Working with dogs keeps his focus on God.   His unique approach to dog training also gives him a unique way of seeing things in training.  He starts training where others would give up.  He is often heard saying “There’s a method to the madness” and “Let’s have fun training”.
